Venues in Dubai say they are sold out or nearly fully booked for Valentine's Day events

If you think cupid is stupid or you roll your eyes at roses and cringe at the chocolate-coated overload of Valentine’s trophies, then restaurants and hotels around town might have something for you.
Some venues in Dubai are organising the “anti-Valentine’s day” dinners and entertainment targeting single people, those who hate Valentine’s day or couples who just think the occasion is too romantic or overpriced, they say.
“There’s definitely a gap in the market for it,” said Sarah Norfolk, a marketing consultant at Soul Communications.

5 ways to make the most of life

  • tip 1: Identify anything that may be holding you back

In the words of Robert Byrne “the purpose of life is a life with purpose” and we can’t think of a better quote to hit the nail on the head quite so accurately. To have a purposeful life, we need to identify what’s holding us back and then push ourselves to achieve amazing things. There are so many elements that stand in the way of what we want, including fear of the unknown and fear of failure. You need to overcome this mindset to achieve things that you never knew were possible. Do you think Bill Gates made his millions by cowering away in a corner through fear of being laughed at? No. You are in control of your own happiness so you need to put your fears to one side and strive for big things to happen for an amazing life.
  • tip 2: Start a business in something you’re passionate about

Got a passion? Don’t let your talents go to waste. Doing something you’re passionate about to make a living is the perfect way to make your life amazing. If you love photography, set up a photography website to showcase your hobby; if you have a knack for it and you advertise it well, people will start to notice you for what you do and you can make money from this hobby. If you’re into arts, crafts, fashion, cake baking and such things, set up your own stall at a craft fair or market and sell your creations. Doing something you love and seeing it make a difference in the world really helps in your quest towards an amazing and fulfilling life.
  • tip 3: Set an outrageous goal
Those who strive to achieve bigger things than the average Joe are usually the ones who feel more satisfied by life. What would you like others to recognise you for? Dream of the person you want to be and the things you want to do and then make it happen. Do a once-in-a-lifetime challenge; climb to the top of Kilimanjaro, move to a foreign country for a while, help underprivileged families in other countries – the list of exciting things to achieve are endless. Make sure you don’t let anything stand in your way and once you’ve decided to achieve something, do everything in your power to make it happen.
  • tip 4: Learn to make the most of your time
We only get so much time, and to make the most of our lives we need to fully utilise this limited amount of time to make this life amazing. To ensure that we’re making the most of our time, it’s important to be conscious of how we are using it, what we are using it for, and if we’re using it wisely to make us happy. Are you really making the most out of your time? Are you enjoying the things you do in your current routine? Are you being productive? Plan in advance and create a checklist of everything you’d like to achieve and then tick off each achievement as you go along.
  • tip 5: Know that you have the right to happiness
Everyone has the right to happiness although unfortunately it seems to be innately programmed into us that we feel guilty when we get it. Another human trait that goes hand-in-hand with this, however, is that we tend to sit around waiting for happiness to descend on us one day when, in reality, this doesn’t happen. We need to stop feeling guilty about happiness and stop expecting that happiness is just going to happen to us like magic. Instead, it’s time to start putting in the effort today. Outline your goals and decide what you want to do; think way beyond your comfort zone. To make your life amazing, you need to be proactive, so go out there today and start achieving your dreams.
